Want to read to 2nd graders?
Thursday 08-21-2008 6:52am CT
The Ready 2 Read volunteer reader encourages second grade students to read for pleasure. A library of books provided by the Rotaract Club of Birmingham will be made available for each second grade classroom in the Birmingham city school system. Teachers will give the students class time to read from the Ready 2 Read library.
CLICK HERE TO FIND OUT HOW TO VOLUNTEER
Frequency of reading is up to the volunteer but it is encouraged that you read at least once a month for the period of September – April (8 monthly sessions). Each session takes approximately 30 minutes and is as simple as visiting the classroom or classrooms, reading a small picture filled book, and encouraging the children to read from the Ready 2 Read library.

Help these gorgeous dogs!
Tuesday 08-19-2008 8:53am CT
Janie, our friend from Birmingham Jefferson Animal Control, needs our help again! At left you can click on the picture and see more of these beautiful "Fila Mastiffs". They are loyal dogs but have the capacity to be aggressive to strangers, making them dangerous if they are not trained properly.
Unfortunately, Janie uncovered a home in the area with 20 of these giants! NONE of them are spayed or neutered. We desperately want to get each of these big boys and girls spayed and neutered, to ensure that no additional breeding can take place.
To help out, PLEASE make a donation by calling 205-956-0012 and donating to Operation Fila. Thank you again to everyone that helps. Friends of pets are friends of Rob and Shannon!
Thank you!

Myrtle decided she wanted to go into labor right here in studio!
Thanks to Rob and Shannon listeners, little Myrtle and her puppies have a strong chance to survive! At this time, we believe a foster home is in place... that would save Myrtle from an otherwise required euthenasia.
***UPDATE*** Myrtle is now in the foster care of Rob and Shannon listener Karen Evans. Thank you Karen for saving this little girl!
However, help is still needed many other adorable and adoptable pets at Birmingham Jefferson Animal Control.
Please call Janie if you can help in any way! BJC: 205-591-6522
